About
Academic Rigour · Hands on Experience
PERATIM brings together two engineering perspectives that do not always occur together: a strong academic and analytical foundation and extensive hands-on industrial engineering experience.
Our academic experience extends to postdoctoral-level research, postgraduate teaching, published research, peer review and specialist consultancy, providing a rigorous foundation in mathematical modelling, numerical methods and engineering analysis. This is combined with decades of practical industrial experience designing and developing real products, machines and mechanical systems. That experience extends beyond analysis and CAD to prototyping, testing, manufacturing and hands-on fabrication.
The result is an approach that is equally comfortable developing a mathematical model to understand the underlying physics of a problem and getting directly involved in developing, building and testing the practical solution.
How We Work
Every engineering problem is different, and we don't assume at the outset what the solution will require. We begin by understanding the problem — what is happening, why it is happening and what a successful outcome needs to achieve.
From there, we use the engineering methods appropriate to the problem. That may involve first-principles analysis, mathematical modelling, simulation, testing, mechanical design or, more often, a combination of approaches. Analysis is a means to an end; the objective is always to arrive at a practical engineering outcome.
Our involvement can range from a focused contribution to overcome a specific technical issue through to longer-term collaboration with a client's engineering team. Where the way forward is uncertain, we can work in agreed phases, allowing the findings from each stage to determine what should happen next.
